SIC Life Insurance LTD and the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have entered into a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening collaboration in promoting safety, protection, and financial security for officers and their families.
The signing ceremony, held at the Interior Ministry in Accra on Monday, 17th November, 2025 was witnessed by the Minister of Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak who commended both institutions for forging a partnership that directly supports national safety efforts and the welfare of service personnel.
The Minister, in his remarks, applauded SIC Life's dedication to supporting frontline agencies. He stated that strategic partnerships between state institutions and corporate bodies are essential for building a safer and more resilient nation. He further encouraged both parties to ensure the effective implementation of the agreement.
He expressed gratitude to the Chief Fire Officer and SIC Life for partnering with government to achieve an initiative the President has long prioritized. He noted that fire officers risk their lives daily to save others yet previously lacked fair welfare support which necessitated funding their own treatment in the event of injury. The President had therefore directed that this issue be resolved within the first year of his tenure. Hon. Muntaka praised the Fire Service for helping achieve this within ten months hence, government will continue working with partners to enhance the benefits over time so officers feel protected and valued when risking their lives.
Highlighting the dangers faced by other agencies such as the Ghana Immigration Service and the Ghana Police Service, he stressed on the need for stronger support and similar welfare arrangements across all security services systems for improved benefits.
Mrs. Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sapong, the Chief Fire Officer expressed confidence that the MoU will improve the security and wellbeing of officers who put their lives on the line daily to protect lives and property. She noted that the collaboration forms part of the Service’s broader agenda to strengthen personnel welfare and improve morale across all commands. She commended SIC Life for all the assistance being given to the Fire service especially during recent accidents some officers have faced in the line of duty and looks forward to more collaborations. She also reiterated other plans with SIC Life for the welfare of officers and affirmed that the Minister will be informed accordingly when those plans materialize.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of SIC Life, Ing. Solomon Twum Barima, Esq highlighted that the agreement reflects the company’s commitment to providing tailored life insurance solutions that respond to the unique risks and needs of fire service officers. He emphasized that the partnership would ensure GNFS personnel access enhanced insurance benefits, financial protection, and prompt service delivery. He also outlined the benefits the enhanced group policy comes with which include: Death , Disability ,Temporary disability, Critical illness all in the line of duty. Ing. Twum Barima also stated, ‘ we will keep enhancing the package so that our men and women in the field will feel safe with the assurance that, they have a package with SIC Life that cares about their welfare’. He also encouraged other security services to collaborate with SIC Life to take insurance cover for their personnel.
The MoU is expected to pave the way for structured engagements, training sessions, and product awareness activities to improve officers’ understanding of insurance and financial planning.
The partnership marks a significant step toward enhancing the safety net for GNFS personnel while reinforcing SIC Life’s position as a trusted leader in Ghana’s life insurance industry.
